Blinn’s Jade Rochelle and Rayanna Carter earn Region XIV honors

Blinn College sophomore forward Jade Rochelle (Grandview) and sophomore guard Rayanna Carter (Cedar Park) each earned Region XIV honors for the 2017-18 women's basketball season.

Rochelle was named all-conference after leading the Buccaneers in scoring with 11 points per game and rebounds with 10.5 per game. She scored a season-high 27 points against Hill College and recorded 10 double-doubles this year. Throughout Rochelle's two seasons at Blinn she recorded 577 rebounds, fifth-highest in Blinn history, and totaled 630 points. Rochelle is verbally committed to The University of Texas at El Paso.

"Jade was consistent during her two years at Blinn and she deserves all the success that is coming to her," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "She never missed one practice or one game during her career and she never had a practice or game where she did not go hard or compete."

Carter earned honorable mention in a season in which she ranked second on the team in scoring with 9.8 points per game and in assists with three per game. She scored a season-high 18 points against Panola College on Feb. 7. Carter is verbally committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha.

"Rayanna had a great year and I wish I could have coached her two years instead of one," Jenkins said. "She is the fastest point guard I have ever coached and a really good ball handler."

Blinn finished the season with a 15-16 overall record and an 8-12 mark in Region XIV play. The Buccaneers lost to Kilgore College 71-63 in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament quarterfinals.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
