Buccaneers clamp down defensively to top Paris on the road, 63-43

PARIS, Texas – Blinn College women's basketball relied on its defense early to hold down Paris Junior College and pick up a 63-43 victory Wednesday evening.

The Buccaneers end a two-game losing streak with the victory and improve to 17-9 overall and 10-6 in Region XIV play.

Ke'Asia Williams led the way with 15 points while Jade Rochelle was also in double figures with 11 points. Denisha Ford chipped in nine, Jasmine Redmon finished with six and Bryanna Taylor earned five points.

Blinn started slow offensively but relied on its defense to hold Paris to only eight points in the opening quarter and lead 13-8 after one. That momentum carried over into the second quarter as Blinn outscored Paris 14-7 to take a 27-15 lead into halftime.

The offense picked up for Blinn in the second half as the Buccaneers scored 18 points in each quarter in the second half. Paris had its best quarter in the third, scoring 16 points but Blinn still led 45-31 heading into the final quarter. Blinn finished off the game strong, outscoring Paris 18-12 to take the 20-point victory.

Blinn will have its first home game since Jan. 21 when it hosts Coastal Bend College on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Coastal Bend is winless in 15 games so far in Region XIV play.
