Defensive stops help Buccaneers beat Angelina on the road, 76-55

LUFKIN, Texas – The offense was working well all night for Blinn College women's basketball and the defense stepped up in the second and third quarters to help the Buccaneers to a 76-55 victory over Angelina College Wednesday evening.

Blinn has now won eight consecutive games and improves to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in Region XIV play.

Bryanna Taylor had the hot hand from behind the 3-point line as she hit five 3-pointers to end the game with 17 points. Ke'Asia Williams also added 17 points while Brenisha Coleman was also in double figures with 14 points. Daikea Milton added eight, Jasmine Redmon chipped in seven and Jade Rochelle contributed six points in the victory.

The first quarter was pretty equal as Blinn had the offense going but had a hard time stopping Angelina as the Buccaneers held a 19-18 lead after one. Defense stepped up in the second quarter by only allowing nine points to Angelina and scoring 23 to take a 42-27 lead at the break.

That defensive effort carried over into the third quarter as Angelina only managed 12 points and Blinn scored 24 to hold a 66-39 lead heading into the fourth. The Buccaneers were able to get all 13 players on the court and coast to the 21-point victory.

Blinn will next face conference foe Jacksonville College on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. Jacksonville is currently 3-5 in Region XIV play through eight games.
