No. 14 Buccaneers blow past Southwestern Christian for first win, 76-46

HOUSTON, Texas – No. 14 Blinn College women's basketball grabbed control early and cruised to a 76-46 victory over Southwestern Christian College Friday afternoon at the San Jacinto Classic.

"It was good to get a win after a week of practice coming off of a loss," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "We played hard today but it will still take time to come together as a team."

The Buccaneers improved to 1-1 on the season with 15 points coming from Brenisha Coleman and 13 scored by Jade Rochelle. Ke'Asia Williams also reached double figures with 10 points, Bryanna Taylor had nine while Abigail Whyte and Jasline Chandler each had seven points in the win.

Blinn jumped out to an early lead to begin the game and led 19-11 after one quarter. That lead ballooned in the second quarter as the Buccaneers maintained a 31-19 lead at the break.

The Buccaneers opened up the game in the second half by outscoring Southwestern Christian 25-14 to lead 56-33 with only 10 minutes remaining. With the big lead, Blinn was able to give reserve players some playing time in the game.

Even with the reserves in, Blinn extended the lead in the fourth quarter by outscoring Southwestern Christian 20-13 to win by 30 points.

Blinn will continue in the San Jacinto Classic on Saturday, Nov. 5 against Louisiana State University Eunice at 1 p.m.
