Tyler eliminates Blinn from the postseason, 6-1

LUFKIN, Texas – Blinn College softball had one more chance to qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament but the offense struggled and Tyler Junior College pulled out the 6-1 victory Tuesday afternoon in the Region XIV Tournament.

With the season-ending loss, the Buccaneers finish the season with a 37-17 record and a third place finish in the Region XIV Tournament.

Nicole Garcia supplied the lone run for Blinn with a solo home run and she also added a single. Shelby Achille hit three singles while Emily Noah lined two singles in the loss. Morgan Gray also added a hit for the Buccaneers.

Blinn had runners in scoring position in four of the seven innings but were unable to convert on its chances.

Tyler jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a single run in the first and fourth innings and then added two in the third.

Blinn did get a little life in the fifth inning when Garcia blasted a solo home run to left-center with two outs to get the Buccaneers within 4-1. Tyler did pad its lead in the sixth with two more runs to take a 6-1 lead that would end up as the final score.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
