One unearned run enough for San Jacinto to beat Blinn, 1-0

LUFKIN, Texas – Blinn College softball only allowed just one unearned run but it was enough for San Jacinto College-South to beat the Buccaneers 1-0 Monday afternoon in the Region XIV tournament.

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to the one-loss bracket with a 37-16 record. Blinn can still qualify for the national tournament with a win on Tuesday, May 9 at 10 a.m. against the winner of the Tyler Junior College and Angelina College game.

Colleen Bentke pitched well enough to win after overcoming a bumpy opening inning. Bentke pitched six innings and allowed one unearned run on six hits while striking out three in the loss.

Emily Noah hit the ball well as she had a pair of singles to lead the way. As a team, Blinn had five total hits and left runners stranded in scoring position in two separate innings.

San Jacinto scored its lone run in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead that would end up as the final score.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
