Blinn College men’s soccer tops Jacksonville, 5-0

BRENHAM, Texas — David Jara scored two goals to help lead the Blinn College men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Jacksonville College on Thursday afternoon at Cub Stadium.

With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 5-10 overall and 4-9 in Region XIV play.

"It is exciting to see them compete and hit their stride at this point in the season," said Jorden Smith, Blinn head coach. "This win gives us good momentum moving forward and it is nice to peak at the right moment as we get closer to playoffs."

Jara led Blinn's offense with two goals, while Omar Quintana, Johnny Girard and Jose Garcia followed with one goal apiece.

"This win meant a lot to us, especially since this a first-year program and we are so close to going to the playoffs," Jara said. "We all really worked together and communicated as a team, so this was a great win."

Farit Ha led the Buccaneers with two assists, while Andres Amaro recorded one assist.

"Ha is an amazing player and is everywhere to setup, assist and score goals," Jara said.

Ha sparked the offense in the14th minute with a corner kick that allowed Quintana to score Blinn's first goal. Jara followed with a goal in the 23rd minute and Blinn held a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half, Jara scored his second goal of the game for Blinn to lead 3-0 in the 56th minute. In the 65th minute, Ha assisted Girard in scoring Blinn's fourth goal. Amaro delivered a corner kick for Garcia to score in the 72nd minute for the Buccaneers to lead 5-0.

Blinn men's soccer will conclude the regular season on the road against Angelina College on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
