Blinn men’s soccer loses to Coastal Bend

BELLVILLE, Texas — Blinn College men's soccer (4-10, 3-9) lost to Coastal Bend College, 7-2, on Wednesday night. 

The Buccaneers totaled five shots and two shots on goal. Austin Dobbs and David Jara led the offense by scoring one goal apiece for Blinn, while Johnny Girard and Alexis Rodriguez each recorded an assist. 

On defense, Erasto Cardenas led Blinn with eight saves. Josh Frias followed with three saves.

Coastal Bend opened the game with a 2-0 lead after scoring in the fifth and 18th minutes, but the Buccaneers evened the score by the half. Dobbs scored the first goal for Blinn in the 27th minute and was assisted by Girard. In the 36th minute, Rodriguez assisted Jara in scoring a goal for Blinn to tie the game 2-2. Coastal Bend scored in the 44th minute to hold a 3-2 lead at the half.

In the second half, Coastal Bend scored four goals in the 68th, 83rd, 88th and 90th minutes.

Next, Blinn will play in its final home game of the regular season against Jacksonville College on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. Due to field conditions, the game will played at Cub Stadium. 

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
