Omar Gonzalez enters his second year as assistant coach/red shirt coordinator for Blinn College men's basketball. Gonzalez joins the Buccaneers after serving three years as a graduate assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. 

During his time at A&M-Kingsville, Gonzalez coached under head coach Johnny Estelle. In his final season at Kingsville, Gonzalez assisted the Javelinas to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time since the 2009-10 season. Kingsville was able to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2016-17 with its' first national tournament victory in school history. 

In his tenure at Kingsville, Gonzalez was director of operations and video coordinator. He also assisted as camp coordinator at Kingsville, with recruit visits and served as an academic evaluator for men's basketball. 

Prior to Kingsville, Gonzalez was head men's basketball manager for the University of Houston under the direction of head coach James Dickey. Gonzalez was responsible for planning and coordinating recruiting visits. He also assisted with practice drills, travel itineraries and summer camps. Prior to Houston, Gonzalez also served as men's basketball manager at University of Texas at El Paso for two seasons. 

Gonzalez received his master's degree in guidance and counseling from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2016 and his bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis on sports administration from the University of Houston in 2014. 

Gonzalez is the son of Gustavo and Celia Gonzalez and the brother to Ceci Gonzalez.
