Three Buccaneers earn Region XIV men’s basketball honors

Three Blinn College men's basketball players earned Region XIV honors after leading the Buccaneers to a 20-12 record during the 2017-18 season.

Sophomore guards Markques Houston (Houston) and Antione Lister (Brenham) were named all-region and all-conference, while redshirt sophomore forward Tony Lewis (San Antonio) earned honorable mention after leading the team in scoring.

"Antione, Markques, and Tony had a great year for us and I am extremely happy for them," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "Individual awards are a direct result of team success and our team had an outstanding season this year."

Lister was the leading scorer for the Buccaneers with 13.4 points per game, and throughout his two years at Blinn, scored a combined 680 points. Houston ranked second on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game and totaled 599 points in two seasons at Blinn. He recorded a season-high 29 points, while Lister scored a season-high 30 points against Coastal Bend College on Jan. 24.

Lewis earned honorable mention in a season in which he ranked third on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game and ranked third on the team with five rebounds per game.

In addition to Blinn finishing the season with a 20-12 overall record, the Buccaneers posted a 9-10 record in Region XIV play. Blinn defeated Angelina College in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament quarterfinals 57-52 and then lost to Kilgore College in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament semifinals 63-60.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
