Buccaneers top San Jacinto College-Central 85-69 for 13th home win

BRENHAM, Texas - Blinn College men's basketball used its balanced scoring to jump out early and hold the lead the entire game as the Buccaneers took down San Jacinto College-Central 85-69 on Saturday afternoon in the Kruse Center.

"We did a really good job of attacking San Jacinto from the inside with our scoring," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "I am very excited and humbled to be able to sweep San Jacinto in the last year of their existence. It is one of the most storied junior college basketball programs in the NJCAA and I thanked my players after the game for giving me that memory in my coaching career."

The Buccaneers defeated San Jacinto earlier in the season 72-66.

Curtlon Wesley led the Buccaneers with a season-high 22 points, while Antione Lister followed with 17 points, Markques Houston chipped in 15 points and Tony Lewis scored 12 points.

The Buccaneers sprung to an early 29-11 lead in the first half and never let San Jacinto within 10 points for the remainder of the game. Blinn built its lead to 43-20 at the break.

Blinn continued to dominate in the second half by scoring another 42 points for the victory.

The Buccaneers picked up their 13th win at home to improve their overall record to 16-8 and Region XIV record to 7-7.

The Buccaneers will host Schreiner University JV in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kruse Center. The game will follow the women's basketball game against Paris Junior College starting at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
