Blinn falls to Jacksonville on the road, 72-65

JACKSONVILLE, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball fell to Jacksonville College 72-65 on Saturday afternoon despite the Buccaneers' defense holding Jacksonville to 22 points underneath its scoring average.

"We competed and played hard," said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. "Unfortunately on the road you have to play close to a perfect game to win and we didn't do that tonight."

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 14-8 overall and 5-7 in Region XIV conference play

On offense, Antione Lister led the Buccaneers with 23 points, while Markques Houston followed with 14 points and Tyrus Grayson was next with 11 points. Bradley George led the Buccaneers with 10 steals and Grayson led with seven rebounds.

Jacksonville pulled ahead of Blinn in the first half 40-34 and although Blinn played Jacksonville point-for-point in the second half it wasn't enough for the Buccaneers to grab the victory.

The Buccaneers return home on Wednesday, Feb. 7 to take on conference opponent Lee College at 7:30 p.m. in the Kruse Center. The game will follow the women's basketball game against Panola College starting at 5:30 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
