Blinn unable to get past No. 22 Tyler, 85-73

TYLER, Texas - Blinn College men's basketball fought hard against No. 22 Tyler Junior College, but could never grab the lead as the Buccaneers fell by the score of 85-73 on Monday night in Tyler.

"Our guys did a really good job of fighting back, but we could never get that one stop to propel us past Tyler," Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach.

The loss ends Blinn's three game winning streak and drops its overall record to 10-4 and Region XIV record to 2-3.

Gianni Ford led the Buccaneers with 18 points, while Markques Houston also reached double digits with 14 points and Antione Lister chipped in seven points.

The Buccaneers fell behind early as Tyler took a 21-9 lead, but Blinn managed to fight back and cut Tyler's lead to 46-35 at the half. In the second half, the Buccaneers came within five points of catching Tyler, but never could grab the lead.

The Buccaneers will return to the Kruse Center for a conference match-up against Trinity Valley Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. That game will be part of a double-header, as the Blinn women's basketball team hosts Coastal Bend College at 5:30 p.m.
