Top-seeded San Jacinto too much for Blinn in regional quarterfinals, 93-74

JACKSONVILLE, Texas – No. 1 seed San Jacinto College-Central was too much for No. 9 seed Blinn College men's basketball as the Buccaneers fell 93-74 in the Region XIV quarterfinals inside John Alexander Gymnasium.

The season-ending loss leaves the Buccaneers with an 18-14 overall record. Blinn was 7-12 in Region XIV regular season play.

Curtlon Wesley led Blinn off the bench in scoring 15 points and adding seven rebounds. Juwan Green and LaKendric Hyson each chipped in 14 points in the loss.

Blinn was able to hang with San Jacinto in the first six minutes as both teams were tied at 9-9 with 14:10 left in the first half. In the middle of the first half, San Jacinto scored seven straight to take a 29-19 lead with 6:39 left.

Juwan Green and Hyson each scored eight points in the first half while Wesley stepped up to score seven for Blinn. San Jacinto closed out the half strong and even capped the half with a half-court buzzer-beater to take a 50-32 lead at the half.

Blinn was unable to cut into the San Jacinto lead in the second half. Wesley scored eight points while Hyson, Markques Houston and Green each scored six in the second half.

The Buccaneers did go on a 9-0 run late in the second half to get within 80-61 with 6:42 left but couldn't get much closer than that the rest of the way in the 19-point loss.
