Blinn unable to dig out of early hole in loss to Angelina, 79-65

BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball dug itself an early hole and couldn't find a way out in a 79-65 loss to Angelina College Saturday evening inside the P.E. Building.

With the loss, Blinn falls to 16-12 overall and 6-11 in Region XIV play.

Juwan Green led the Buccaneers with 14 points after scoring all but two of his points in the second half. LaKendric Hyson chipped in 12 points while Tyler Barlow tossed in 10 points in the loss.

Blinn kept the game close for the first 10 minutes as Green made a jumper near the foul line to get Blinn within 13-12 of Angelina. From that point, Angelina grabbed the momentum and raced out to a 36-21 lead with 4:54 left.

The Buccaneers got it a little closer at halftime but still trailed 44-32 at the break. Hyson led Blinn with eight points while Curtlon Wesley chipped in seven points.

Blinn did come out scoring the first three points of the half but Angelina quickly grabbed the momentum and led 61-39 with 11:47 left. The Buccaneers did chip away at the Angelina lead late in the game and got within 75-65 after a basket by Antione Lister with 1:18 left. Angelina was able to score the final four points to hold on to the 14-point victory.

Green did score 12 points in the second half while Lister and Barlow each scored seven points in the half.

Blinn will travel for its final regular season road game on Tuesday, Feb. 28 against Jacksonville College at 7:30 p.m. Jacksonville is 5-11 through 16 game in Region XIV play and the Buccaneers beat Jacksonville 92-75 on Feb. 4 in Brenham.
