Buccaneers let game slip away late at Angelina, 72-66

LUFKIN, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball played good enough to steal a game on the road but late turnovers and missed free throws by the Buccaneers allowed Angelina College to come back for a 72-66 victory Wednesday night.

With the loss, Blinn's overall record falls to 13-8 and the Buccaneers are now 4-7 in Region XIV play.

Antione Lister led Blinn with 14 points while Curtlon Wesley was the other Buccaneer in double figures with 10 points. Free throws hurt Blinn as the Buccaneers hit just 19-of-34 for a 55.9 percent clip.

Blinn got off to a slow start as Angelina jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first seven minutes. The Buccaneers showed fight as Angelina had its lead cut to 21-16 with 6:54 left and Blinn had enough energy to come back and take a 34-30 lead at the break.

The game stayed tight throughout the second half as Angelina charged back to tie the game at 40-40 with 13:22 left. Angelina took its first lead in the second half at 55-54 with 4:45 left and Blinn was unable to crawl back into the game as the Roadrunners earned the six-point victory.

Blinn will be back home on Saturday, Feb. 4 for a conference game against Jacksonville College at 4 p.m. Jacksonville is 4-6 in Region XIV play through 10 games.
