Blinn shows poise in beating Kilgore on the road, 70-68

KILGORE, Texas – Blinn College men's basketball showed off its poise and played hard enough to earn a 70-68 victory over Kilgore College Monday night.

The Buccaneers have now won two of their last three conference games and improved to 3-5 in Region XIV and 12-6 overall.

James Harrison came up big for Blinn with 16 points while Juwan Green added 13 points. Kobe Wrice chipped in 13 points to go along with five rebounds. LaKendric Hyson grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Neither team could pull away for a big lead as the game was tied 33-33 at the half. The second half was a grind as Kilgore led 50-49 with 8:40 left but then Blinn came back to tie the game at 58-58 with 4:14 left.

The Buccaneers inched ahead 63-60 with 2:58 left and were able to hold onto that lead in the final seconds to pick up the road win.

Blinn shot 46 percent from the field and only committed 12 turnovers in the win. The Buccaneers made 12-of-16 free throws on the night in this close game.

Blinn will next travel to face Coastal Bend College on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. Coastal Bend is 1-8 through nine games in Region XIV play.
