Co-Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, and Defensive Line Coach Eddie Jones, Jr. is entering his fourth season with the Buccaneers.

Jones joined the Buccaneer staff as defensive coordinator in 2015 after a two-year stint in the Austin area, where he served in various coaching roles at the high school level for Hyde Park Schools. In 2017, Jones served as special teams coordinator, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Blinn.

As a Kilgore, Texas native, Jones was considered one of the nation’s best defensive linemen coming out of high school. He finished his career at Kilgore High School with 310 tackles, including 27 tackles for a loss, 28 sacks, 25 pass break-ups, eight forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, 30 pressures, and a blocked punt which he returned for a touchdown. As a junior, Jones helped Kilgore to the 2004 4A state championship and a 16-0 record. He had 11 tackles and two sacks in the title game win over Dallas Lincoln.

After high school, Jones accepted a scholarship to attend The University of Texas at Austin to play football for the Longhorns under head coach Mack Brown. At defensive end, Jones appeared in 50 career games, including eight starts. He was an honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference selection in 2010 with 111 tackles, 71 solo tackles, 13.5 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, 39 pressures, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He also posted five special teams tackles and appeared in all 12 games, including eight starts at defensive end, in his final season at Texas. Jones graduated in the spring of 2010 with a dual degree in kinesiology and education with a minor in business.

That year, Jones was signed by the New York Jets, where he spent time on the practice squad and the active roster. He also spent time with the St. Louis Rams before returning to the Jets in January 2012.

Off the field, Jones is passionate about guiding and mentoring the next generation and helping them reach their full potential. He has a daughter, Maliyah Skye Jones, who is 5 years old and lives in Austin with her mother. Jones is finishing his master’s degree in sports management in August.
