Coach Mahon to speak at the 2019 American Football Coaches Association Convention

Blinn College football coach Ryan Mahon will be a featured speaker at the 2019 American Football Coaches Association Convention on Jan. 6-9 at the San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk Hotel.

Mahon, who just wrapped up his third season as Blinn's head coach, will join junior college football coaches Jeff Fischer, Cliff Collins and Donald White in the Junior College General Session from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Room 214 on Monday, Jan. 7. Mahon and White will go head-to-head in Chalk Wars. Mahon will discuss offensive schemes and plays in given situations, while White will discuss defense.

"I am excited about the opportunity to speak about football, while representing Blinn College at the AFCA convention," Mahon said. "Coaching offense is something that I have done my entire career and what I am passionate about."

In three seasons as Blinn's head coach Mahon has led the Buccaneers to two playoff berths, a Southwest Junior College Football Conference ( SWJCFC) co-championship and two bowl games. Blinn finished the season ranked 15th in the nation with a 7-4 record after defeating then-ranked No. 14 Scottsdale in the Valley of the Sun Bowl. In 2018, Blinn ranked No. 1 in the nation in yards per game (499.2) and No. 3 in the nation in points (455).

Mahon came to Blinn after coaching one year at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College as the offensive coordinator. Mahon also spent 10 seasons at Tyler Junior College, the last eight years as offensive coordinator and associate head coach, coaching 34 all-conference offensive selections. He also had coaching stints at Texas A&M University-Commerce and Feather River (Calif.) College.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
