Former Blinn Buccaneer selected in 2018 NFL Draft

Former Blinn College football player Damion Ratley was selected in the 2018 NFL Draft last week in Arlington.

Former Blinn wide receiver Damion Ratley was selected 175th overall in the sixth round out of Texas A&M University by the Cleveland Browns.

"It is really exciting each time a former Blinn College football player gets drafted for the whole team," said Ryan Mahon, Blinn head coach. "It shows the tradition that we have here and the types of players that come through our football program."

Ratley was named to the NJCAA honorable mention list in 2014 after recording 45 receptions, 1,197 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in eight games for Blinn College. He earned all-conference honors after averaging a team-best 26.6 yards per catch. Ratley signed with Texas A&M University mid-season after leading the team in scoring with 120 points.

During his senior year at Texas A&M, Ratley had 30 catches for 603 yards in 12 games. He clocked an impressive 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Pro Day.

There are currently three Buccaneers playing in the NFL Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers, Dede Westbrook of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Devante Mays of the Green Bay Packers.

Blinn will start the 2018 season on Saturday, Aug. 25, against Texas A&T at 7 p.m. at Cub Stadium in Brenham.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
