Region XIV Conference recognizes five Buccaneer baseball players

Two Blinn College baseball players earned Region XIV Conference all-region and all-conference honors and three others were named all-conference, the Buccaneers announced today in advance of the Region XIV Tournament.

Outfielder Johnny Rizer (Cypress) and catcher Marshall Skinner (Cypress) earned all-region and all-conference honors. Third baseman Sam McElreath (Brenham), outfielder Anthony Jones (Missouri City) and second baseman Jay Anderson (Humble) were each named all-conference.

"The big thing with this group of players is great work ethic and attitude all season long," said Harvey McIntyre, Blinn head coach. "These guys have put up great numbers to be some of the best in conference."

Skinner was named all-region, all-conference, and was recognized as defensive player of the year behind the plate. He committed only one error for a fielding percentage of .996, and threw out 13 of 28 runners stealing. Skinner hit .354 and led the Buccaneers with 14 doubles.

A Texas Christian University signee, Rizer hit .359 and tied for the team lead in home runs with 11.

McElreath hit .351 and drove in 36 runs on the season. Jones, a transfer from Cisco College, hit .361 and led the team with 12 stolen bases. Anderson led the Buccaneers in batting average (.367) in the leadoff position and drove in 21 runs.

Blinn opens the Region XIV Tournament at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 13, against Panola College at Texas Air Hogs Stadium in Grand Prairie.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
