Temple holds off Blinn in low-scoring game, 3-1

TEMPLE, Texas – Blinn College baseball dug itself a three-run hole and was unable to recover as Temple College held on for a 3-1 victory Monday afternoon.

With the non-conference loss, Blinn falls to 25-24 overall and stays at 15-16 in Region XIV play.

Colton Parrish had the lone RBI for the Buccaneers while Jay Anderson added a double. Sam McElreath, Koby Collins and Marshall Skinner each had a single in the loss as Blinn could only muster four hits.

Brandon Symmank got the start and pitched four innings and allowed one earned run while giving up four hits and striking out two. Garrett Alexander, Trent Murphy and Zach Smith each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game and keep the Buccaneers in the game.

Temple was able to jump out to a 3-0 lead after a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Skinner did get the Blinn offense started in the sixth inning with a lead off single and then he came in to score on a sacrifice fly to center by Parrish to get Blinn with 3-1. The Buccaneers had runners on scoring position in the seventh and eighth inning but were unable to score another run in the two-run loss.

Blinn will begin its final regular season series on Friday, May 5 at home against Laredo Community College beginning at 4 p.m. at Leroy Dreyer Field.
