Blinn unable to slow down Weatherford on the road, 9-2

WEATHERFORD, Texas – Blinn College baseball had a hard time slowing down the offense of Weatherford College in the first five innings and couldn't recover in a 9-2 loss Friday night.

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 4-6 overall.

Johnny Rizer was able to hit a solo home run to drive in one run while Angel De La Fuente drove in the other run with a double in the final inning. Sammy Pleus came on in relief and pitched three shutout innings while striking out four.

Weatherford jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first and fourth innings, a single run in the second and four runs in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.

Rizer did get Blinn on the board with a solo home run to right to get within 9-1 in the seventh inning. With only one out left in the ninth inning, Colton Parrish singled and then De La Fuente followed with an RBI double to left to get Blinn within 9-2 but Weatherford would earn the final out on the next batter to seal the win.

Blinn will face Weatherford two more times on Saturday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
