Alvin takes a pair of games from the Buccaneers, 4-0 and 3-2

BRENHAM, Texas – By leaving too many runners stranded on base, Blinn College baseball missed out on too many scoring chances and dropped both games, 4-0 and 3-2, to Alvin Community College Feb. 26 at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

The pair of losses drops the Blinn conference record to 2-4 and 10-5 overall.

Pitching was probably the lone bright spot for the Buccaneers as Nathan Alexander came on in the second inning of the first game and started with four shutout innings. Alexander did give up a few runs in the sixth and seventh innings but pitched well.

In the second game, Kirby Peek started and pitched well and only gave up two runs and then Christian Thames came on in the fifth and only allowed one run but pitching wasn't the issue. Blinn left 10 runners on base in the second game loss.

Alvin scored a run in the first inning in the opening game and added a single run in the sixth and two in the seventh. Robbie Rojas was one of the few players to get consistent contact with the bat and he had two singles and a walk in the loss. Blinn had a runner on third in the second and seventh inning but couldn't move the runner across the plate in the 4-0 loss.

Offense got on the board in the second game as Conner Smith reached with a walk and then came around to give Blinn a 1-0 lead after an Alvin error after two innings. Alvin countered right back with two in the third for a 2-1 lead.

The Buccaneers went after the lead in the third with a leadoff single by Hunter Lehman. Smith was able to knock in Lehman with a sacrifice fly to center to knot the game at 2-2. Alvin got the last lead of the game with a single run in the fifth to help it earn a 3-2 victory.

Ben Upton did have a solid game in the second game against Alvin with two singles but the Buccaneers couldn't get a hit in the high pressure situations.

Blinn will look to bounce back against Alvin on Feb. 28 on the road for a double header that begins at 12 p.m.
