Buccaneers complete sweep of Laredo

The Blinn baseball team completed a four-game sweep over the Laredo Palominos Saturday at Leroy Dreyer Field.

The Buccaneers defeated Laredo 6-2 in the opener, then sophomore pitcher Keith Brenner tossed a two-hitter in a Game 2's 7-0 win.

Brenner struck out 13 and walked one through seven innings. His outing comes a day after sophomore Robbie Dickey held Laredo to two hits in six innings and struck out 11 in Game 2 Friday, a 19-0 Buccaneer win.

Blinn won Game 1 Friday 5-3.

It's the Bucs first Region XIV Conference series sweep of the season.

Nolan Brown, Caden Williams and Cullen Gassaway each had two hits in the Game 2 victory.  Blinn took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a two-run home run by Williams, and Gassaway made it 3-0 with a solo shot in the third.

The Bucs completed the sweep after responding from a 2-1 Laredo deficit in the fifth inning of Game 1.

Blinn took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth off a run by freshman Cullen Jozwiak, a Brenham High School product. A double by Gassaway and a single by Robinson in the bottom of the sixth extended Blinn's lead to 6-2.

Sophomore Shane McCarley picked up the win on the mound after tossing seven innings. He allowed two runs—one earned—on seven hits and struck out two.
