Scott Schumacher is in his 11th year as the Blinn College athletic director.

In 2021-22, Schumacher oversaw a Buccaneer athletic department that had four teams earn trips to national tournaments. The Blinn volleyball, women's basketball, dance, and cheer teams competed at nationals, while the volleyball, women's basketball, and men’s golf teams also won conference championships.

In addition, the Blinn volleyball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s golf, and softball teams made trips to Region XIV tournaments.

The Blinn women's basketball team made history by claiming its first-ever Region XIV championship, an honor it shared with Trinity Valley Community College. The Buccaneers finished their season with a 28-5 record and won the Region XIV Tournament while qualifying for nationals.

The Blinn volleyball team finished eighth in the nation after earning a trip to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. The Buccaneers won the Region XIV conference championship with a 16-0 record, won the Region XIV Tournament, and concluded the season with a 39-4 overall record.

The Blinn men’s golf team captured the Region XIV title, while the women's team sent Holly Paterson to the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships. The men’s team finished the year ranked 20th in the nation, while the women's team finished 15th in the national poll.

Other highlights in 2021-22 included volleyball players Jayde Shelton and Reagan Casey, football players Joshua Berry and Bryton Thompson, and women’s basketball player Telisha Brown earning NJCAA All-America honors, Shelton being named Region XIV Player of the Year, Casey winning the Region XIV Newcomer of the Year award, and Lixai Perez winning the Region XIV Libero of the Year Award.

Blinn volleyball head coach Terry Gamble was named Region XIV Coach of the Year and one of four 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association Two-Year College Region Coaches of the Year.

A total of 143 student athletes were named to the spring athletic director’s honor roll and two Blinn student athletes were named Atkinson Cup Award winners after maintaining perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA) throughout two years at Blinn. Additionally, six Buccaneer athletic programs were named NJCAA 2021-22 Academic Teams of the Year, with a total of 52 students earning NJCAA All-Academic team honors.

Blinn has captured 42 national championships since 1987, including 16 national championships under Schumacher.

Schumacher also serves as the head men’s basketball coach. In 32 years as a junior college head coach, Schumacher has compiled a career record of 6 11-373. On Nov. 22, 2021, Schumacher earned his 600th collegiate head coaching victory when the Blinn men's basketball team defeated Strength 'N Motion. He ranks 14th in all-time wins among active men’s basketball coaches across 439 NJCAA programs. He has led three different junior college programs to conference championships and a top-10 national ranking in the NJCAA polls. Schumacher is in his 36th year coaching basketball at the collegiate level and 13th year as an NJCAA athletic director.
