Schumacher to speak at East Texas Basketball Coaching Clinic

Blinn College athletic director and men's basketball coach Scott Schumacher will be a featured speaker at the East Texas Basketball Coaching Clinic on Saturday, June 2, at Union Grove High School.

Schumacher, who finished his 28th season as a junior college head coach, will speak about zone offense.

"I look at coach Schumacher as more than a coach, but as a mentor in basketball," said Dee Lewis, Union Grove head basketball coach. "He always has great advice and I am looking forward to listening to him talk about zone offense."

Schumacher previously coached at Paris Junior College, Kilgore College, and North Dakota State College of Science prior. Lewis was Schumacher's student assistant while he was the head coach at Kilgore College.

"I really enjoy speaking at basketball clinics because it is a platform for me to talk about the game, while representing Blinn," Schumacher said. "This is an opportunity for me to give back to one of my former student-athletes."

Schumacher just wrapped up his sixth season at Blinn, and now totals 539 career wins. This year Blinn finished the season with a 20-12 overall record and posted a 9-10 record in Region XIV play. Blinn defeated Angelina College in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament quarterfinals 57-52 and then lost to Kilgore College in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament semifinals 63-60.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
