Blinn College will hold open tryouts Sunday, June 3, for athletes at all positions to play in the Buccaneers' inaugural men's and women's soccer seasons.
The women's soccer tryouts will be from 9 a.m. to noon, while men's soccer tryouts will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hohlt Park in Brenham (2425 N. Park Street).
There will be a $30 registration fee that can be paid by cash on-site or mailing a money order to Debbie Watson – Blinn Athletics, 902 College Avenue, Brenham, Texas 77833. With the addition of the programs, the Blinn College Athletic Department will include eight teams that participate in NJCAA competition.
"The addition of men's and women's soccer fits perfectly into the mission and values of Blinn College and our athletic department," Athletic Director Scott Schumacher said. "These new intercollegiate sports will create opportunities for local student-athletes seeking an affordable, first-class education."
Blinn's men's and women's teams each will compete in the NJCAA's Region XIV Conference.
"We are excited to add to Blinn's tradition of athletic success," said Schumacher. "We look forward to seeing the first women's and men's soccer programs in Blinn College history take the field later this year."
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
