Blinn names record 196 students to athletic director’s honor roll

The Blinn College District has named a school-record 196 student-athletes to the spring 2021 Don Wilhelm Athletic Director's Honor Roll. 

To be eligible, student-athletes must post a 3.0 or better grade point average (GPA) and pass a minimum of 12 college-level credit hours. 

Fifty student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average: softball players Marley Mahoney, Emily Murphy, Acie Prince, Natilee Reed, Bailee Stanzione, Chandler Talbot, and Renna Toomey; volleyball players Brooke Borden, Kyndal Coufal, Megan Kessler, Lixai  Perez Velez, Emily Smajstrla, Tatum Smidovec, and Ashley Taylor; baseball players Tyler Burg, Callum Burton, Jett Garcia, Patrick Hail, Mason Muras, John Schell, and Dalton Stevenson; women's soccer players Angel Chase, Maribel Garza, Hope Hillhouse, Madison Kanelos, Grace Parada, Margarita Roussos, and Morgan Zachos; men's soccer players Joseph Boyce, Rodrigo Marquez, Edwin Mata, Ethan Unger, and Brook Williams; dance team members Emilee Cochran, Haley Miller, Destiny Ramos, Haley Rodriguez, and Jamia Smith; women's basketball players Hailey Atwood, Alex Bowman, Rebekah Malik, and Amani Landers; football players Jared Esparza and Jackson Mueller; men's golfers Aaron Reardon and Riley Simmons; women's golfer Madeline Goad; men's basketball player Jadon Vann; cheerleader Madelyn Tamburello; and trainer Lauren Huenefeld. 

The volleyball team led all Blinn athletic programs with a 3.62 GPA, while the softball team followed with a 3.55 GPA. Baseball had the most honor roll students with 31, followed by football with 25.  

"I am very proud of our student-athletes for excelling in the classroom in the midst of a world-wide pandemic," said Scott Schumacher, Athletic Director. "This group set the bar with a record-breaking number of honor roll recipients. They represent the type of well-rounded student-athletes that our coaches aim to recruit, and the entire athletic department is proud of their effort in academics and athletics this semester." 

The honor roll is named after former Blinn Athletic Director Don Wilhelm, an NJCAA Hall of Famer who served the College for 10 years.
